Synopsis:
When Trumpets Fade follows a young private (Ron Eldard) during the Battle Of Huertgen Forest, during WWII. After being the only survivor in his platoon, he is promoted to sergeant and assigned his own squad. During a push to capture a bridge over the Roer River, he is caught between his will to survive, and the orders of his superiors.
Review:
When Trumpets Fade premiered in 1998 on HBO, shortly before Saving Private Ryan opened. Don't watch this movie expecting a feel good story like Saving Private Ryan, this movie is about the conflict within a young soldier, trying to keep himself alive, while at the same time carrying out his orders. This movie is gritty and graphic, but not quite so much as other recent war movies. If you like war movies, you'll probably like this tribute to one of the forgotten battles of World War II.
My Rating:
6/10
