Memphis Belle

Year: 1990
Director: Michael Caton-Jones

Starring: Eric Stoltz, Sean Astin, Matthew Modine, John Lithgow, Billy Zane

Synopsis:

Based on a true story, Memphis Belle is about the famous WWII bomber and it's crew, about to fly their 25th mission. If successful, they will be the first bomber crew in the 8th Air Force to complete their tour of duty. But to succeed, they need to survive the flight into the heart of Nazi Germany, and the treacherous air defenses.

Review:

I've met the pilot of the real Memphis Belle, Col. Robert Morgan, and although this movie is based on a true story, there are some significant changes from reality. But despite that, I love this movie. It's a very intense movie, and unlike later war movies, (When Trumpets Fade, Saving Private Ryan, We Were Soldiers, etc...) it doesn't rely on excessive blood and gore to bring home the horror of war. Instead the movie relys on the acting, dialogue, and plot to build intensity. This is probably my favorite movie, and I try to watch it at least once a year.

My Rating:
10/10
