Escape From New York

Year: 1981
Director: John Carpenter

Starring: Kurt Russell, Donald Pleasance, Isaac Hayes, Lee Van Cleef, Ernest Borgnine, Harry Dean Stanton

Synopsis:

New York City has been turned into a giant maximum security prison. When the President of the United States (Donald Pleasance) crash lands in Manhattan, convicted bank robber Snake Plissken (Kurt Russel) is offered his freedom in return for going in and freeing the President. This won't be easy, as the President has been captured by the "Duke Of New York" (Isaac Hayes) and his gang.

Review:

This was a pretty interesting movie, the concept and the plot are pretty good, as well as the acting. Visually, the sets do well at portraying a city turned prison. I just have kind of a hard time envisioning Donald Pleasance as the President... every time I see him in a movie, I can't help but think of him as James Bond's nemesis, Blofeld, in "You Only Live Twice". The movie keeps a pretty good pace throughout, with enough action to keep it moving.

My Rating:
7/10
