Escape From L.A.

Year: 1996
Director: John Carpenter

Starring: Kurt Russell, Steve Buscemi, Pam Grier, Georges Corraface

Synopsis:

An earthquake has separated Los Angeles from the U.S. mainland, and is now a penal colony. A doomsday device has been stolen, and is in the hands of a terrorist (Georges Corraface) being held on the island. Snake Plissken is called upon to retrieve the device in return for his freedom.

Review:

This isn't so much a sequel to Escape From New York as it is a ripoff. Just about every character in Escape From L.A. has a parallel character from the previous movie; Cuervo is just a ripoff of The Duke Of New York, Map To The Stars Eddie is pretty much the same character as Brain, Pipeline - Cabbie, Hauk - Malloy, and so on. The plots are nearly identical as well, with just a few details changed. If you've seen Escape From New York, then you've pretty much seen this movie as well.

My Rating:
5/10
